Dr. Grace Wong Sneddon

  Dr. Grace Wong Sneddon is the Director, Academic Leadership Initiatives at the University of Victoria. In this portfolio, Dr. Wong Sneddon is responsible for the development and implementation of the professional development for senior leaders which includes over thirty annual events, including orientations, workshops and retreats. In her role as the Adviser to the Provost on Equity and Diversity, she is tasked with creating a campus-wide culture of respect that values diversity, equity and inclusion. She has an Interdisciplinary PhD in Anthropology and Pacific and Asian Studies. Her areas of research include: race and gender in popular culture, Asian North American identity and the Chinese diasporic culture. Dr. Wong Sneddon is an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Art History and Visual Studies and is currently, an associate fellow in the Centre of the Studies of Religion and Society at the University of Victoria. She has a MEd in counselling psychology and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor.
Born and raised in Victoria, Grace is passionately committed to her community. She has completed the ICD-Rotman Directors Education Program and shares that knowledge with the various Boards on which she serves. She is vice-chair of the Greater Victoria Elder Care Foundation, treasurer of the Hoy Sun Ning Yung Benevolent Association, member of the Triumf Management Board, and Chair of the Victoria Foundation.

Mrs. Deborah Anisworth

Deborah Ainsworth has been a member of the Baha’i community for over 30 years.  She has served for many years on elected local governing bodies, known as Spiritual Assemblies.  Over the years, she also has been appointed to several Baha’i committees serving the Saanich Peninsula and Gulf Islands, concerned with promoting spiritual and social progress.  Deborah is retired after a lengthy public service career where she held several executive director positions. She is married and has two adult children, a son-in-law and one adorable granddaughter.  She strives daily to promote unity and cultivate hope for the future of humanity.

Dr. Anneli Driesen
Representing Metaphysical

Anneli has been at the forefront of personal and corporate change for over thirty years. Since 1978 she has been a successful clinical therapist, mentor and master certified coach (MCC) to CEOs and other C-level executives, and served clients in North and South America, Australia, Asia and Europe. Her book Spiritually-Based Leadership is a unique guide to assist individuals in accelerating personal and career performance by integrating divine principals as well as universal ethics rooted within most religious and spiritual traditions. Her most recent interest has been in exploring “Spiritual Intelligence” through a well-researched self-assessment tool, the SQ21 Model. Its 21 identified behavioral skills, which can be learned, are a superb fit with the goals of the Metaphysical Academy’s curriculum program, which “…is grounded in universal knowledge with practical hands-on application to meet everyday challenges and for fostering consciousness expansion and personal responsibility.”

Christian Perspective
Evelyn Thompson-Smith

Evelyn Thompson-Smith shares five adult children and three grandchildren with her husband of 32 years, Nansen Smith. She has a bachelors degree in economics, a masters in business administration, a masters in Law(LLM) and additional credentials in health care design (EDAC) as well as a postgraduate credential in Leadership(CHL). Raised in a believing home she served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Atlantic Canada and has been happy to serve in the churches’ youth, children and women’s programs as well as in family history research and is currently serving as the Director for LDS Public Affairs for the Nanaimo Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Faith in Jesus Christ informs her passion for community. She believes it is the strength of faith filled people from every religion, working together that can heal our culture. Evelyn enjoys knitting opportunities and choices for the under employed and those in need of education and employment. She has worked in adult education, health quality, patient satisfaction, physician recruitment and most recently capital planning; these roles have helped her fill her personal goals to serve and be useful 

Dr. Suresh Basrur
Hindu Faith Perspective

Dr. Suresh Basrur is a retired technology executive. He devotes considerable time to the study of Hinduism. He has written articles and delivered talks on Hinduism, its philosophy, spirituality, and practices. He is a regular contributor to the Times Colonist blog “Spiritually Speaking”.  Based on extensive travel in India, he has made presentations on temples of India, and how different religions co-exist in India. He participates in and promotes inter-faith and multi-cultural activities in Victoria. He volunteers time organizing fund-raisers for local charities (e.g. food banks, Santas Anonymous) and international charities (e.g. Child Haven International, Care Foundation) for under-privileged children.” 

Jewish Faith Perspective
Rabbi Susan Shamash

Tariq Azeem graduated from Ahmadiyya Islamic University in Toronto in 2013. His study was on Theology and Religious.He served as an Imam in Liberia (Africa) for a period six months. He served as a missionary from May 2014 to April 2017 in Lloydminster appointed by the Worldwide Head of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. He is married and currently serving missionary incharge of British Columbia.

Sikh Faith Perspective
Gurdeep Singh

Gurdeep Singh comes from a diversified background. He was born in Kenya and then moved to London in an early age where he received his religious schooling while being associated with the Temple and Many Sages. He has been a prominent part of the Sikh community and has also been religiously and politically active in London before moving to Victoria 9 years ago. Gurdeep has traveled well to 5 continents and his experiences allowed him to be open minded and a free thinker.
